ESCAPE SPRING CRUISE 2002
Spring Escape was held June 1st, 2002 at Smith’s Camps located approx 30 minutes east of Kenora. For the first time in a few years the weather cooperated and we were able to enjoy the great outdoors. People started to arrive mid afternoon and were able to spend some time on the docks. Cocktails were served from 6 till 7pm on the open deck overlooking the lake.
Dinner was served at 7 and Smith’s did and excellent job with Fresh Pickerel, Beans, Wild Rice, Cole Slaw, Corn Bread and Hot Rolls. Joni made a huge batch of her famous Brownie’s for desert, which were awesome.
After dinner we all moved back to the beach where Al, Joni and Nancy had arranged a fire for us. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying the fire and discussing water levels, bouy changes, upcoming summer events and numerous lake stories. Oh yeah, I think the lousy spring weather was mentioned once or twice too.
We gathered Sunday morning for a wonderful country breakfast around 9.30 in the morning. Once again Smiths outdid themselves by offering us Scrambled Eggs, Home Made Hash Browns, Sausage, Bacon, Pancakes, Toast, Fresh Fruit and an assortment of juices.
The rest of the morning was spent with casual gatherings on the dock and wilderness hikes on the local roadways and paths. We packed up, said our farewells and headed for home dock in the early afternoon.
As Commodores of Escape this year, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Nancy, Joni and Al Smith for all their hard work, time and effort for this event. They did a wonderful job and it was greatly appreciated.
